Leadership and Managing Teams

It’s not easy being a leader in a sports organisation, especially in times of economic uncertainty. Nevertheless, without leadership and good team management, many sports organisations and services will fail to deliver what is wanted or needed by their target market – a situation which can only threaten their viability and sustainability.

This module introduces theories of leadership and provides and overview of how effective leadership can deliver business success at operational and strategic levels in sporting environments. The module comprises five topics:

1. Concept of leadership
2. Leadership styles
3. Leading Teams
4. Leadership and cultural change
5. Leadership Effectiveness

This module is designed for people working in a paid or unpaid capacity in sport who wish to develop their skills in leading people and organisations. It may be particularly helpful to aspiring junior and middle managers who wish to maintain their on-going professional development. Each topic in this module is assessed through on-line quizzes and following successful completion of all quizzes delegates will be able to print of a certificate of completion to add their professional development portfolio.
